Tuff Country 22909 2" Leveling Kit for F150 09 Review

This is exactly what I wanted for my 2011 F-150 Crewcab. I have the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags installed in the rear of the truck. This requires you to run at least 18-20 lbs. of pressure in them, due to the fact that, in order to mount the bags, you must remove the factory bump-stop that keeps the axle from contacting the frame when driving over a big bump or dip in the road. That amount of pressure raises the rear close to an inch, so the front leveling kit needs to give you 2 or so inches of lift to be anywhere close to level. I am happy to report that I got around 2 1/4 inches of lift from this kit, with the help of adding 1/8 inch washers on top of the spacer (actually making the spacer 1 3/8 inches, instead of 1 1/4 inches as intended). I used 3 large washers that required some grinding off of one edge so as to not extend over the edge of the spacer while over the stud. I also glued 2 more washers where there was room on the spacer, to give it more surface area to contact the strut tower. One thing to be aware of if you also want to make your spacer a little taller, is that you should put locktite on the top studs when installing the strut with the nuts supplied in the kit. The stud will just about make it through the nut, but the nylon self-locking washer barely contacts the stud when fully tightened. It is better to play it safe in my book. I used red locktite, but blue should be sufficient to do the job. I also put locktite on the studs on top of the actual strut because I had cut the studs shorter in order to install a Daystar 1" spacer kit (that I did not like, by the way). Since the factory studs were shortened, they also did not go through the factory nuts all the way when installing the spacer on the strut. If you have not altered your factory strut, then you will not have this issue.

The Tuff Country spacers are very heavy-duty compared to the polyurethane spacers that Daystar and others sell. The Daystar spacers I removed before installing these, had already compressed down over the "standoffs" on top of the factory strut causing them to be even thinner. This was after being on the truck about 5 weeks! Not impressed at all with those. I have no worry that the Tuff Country's could do anything like that since they are steel. Overall, a much better built kit. For those of you in the western U.S., these can be purchased at Les Schwab tire centers also, but you will pay about $150 there. On the flip side, they will also install them for you, and perform the needed alignment after installation. This will set you back close to $300. I did mine myself, and will have the alignment done in a day or two at the Ford dealership for around $35.

This is a great product that is well designed and made, and comes at a reasonable price. What more could you ask? Extremely satisfied!!
