This works as described. The hardest part of mounting it was reaching that close to the windshield, which is far forward in my car. Placing the square of tint on the windshield is like working with any window tint, and wasn't hard. It would have been possible not to use the tint, but without it there was a double-vision effect of the projected info. It is also a bit easier to see the info with the tint, though on days where bright sunlight is shining directly on the windshield it can still fade out at times. My car had places where the wires could be concealed easily. I almost returned the HUD at first because of an error in the manual, which is only one double-sided page. The page says setting U2 is MPH. That was the starting setting, but at least on the unit I got, U1 is really MPH. Once I figured that out things were better, and other settings worked as expected. At least for my car leaving this plugged in did not noticeably drain the battery, at least not after the four days that is the longest it has been idle. I was initially a bit concerned about that because the little interface box has a tiny blue LED blink occasionally while the car was completely off, and they warn that some cars leave the OBD-II port powered up while off. The poorest thing about the HUD unit is that the three buttons sit loose in the housing, so they can rattle a little with vibration in the car. I solved this by covering the lot with two inches of black electrical tape. It secures them, but still allows them to be pressed if I ever need to again. Since the housing is also black and right at the windshield, the tape cannot be seen anyway. Still, better construction would have avoided the need. What would really be ideal is having a factory HUD available in more cars, with radio indicators, turn signals, low gas and other warnings like my old Pontiac had. However, it is great to at least have my speed displayed again without taking my eyes off the road, and being able to set preferred warning ranges for things like low battery voltage and coolant temperature is a nice plus.
